Wisdom Wednesday

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

James 1:5

How do you get wisdom? I reckon most people think wisdom comes from a broad range of experiences. For instance, these days, travelling the world is one of the keys to wisdom. But you know what, I’m not convinced. I’ve met plenty of people who are really well travelled and yet show a distinct lack of wisdom.

Maybe wisdom comes from reading a lot of books? But what if you are reading the wrong books? Books that actually teach foolishness rather than wisdom? And how would you know if you were?

Now, I’m not saying there is nothing to be gained from travel or from books. There is plenty. But in the end - we need a source of perfect wisdom. And more than that - a source of wisdom that can pass that wisdom on to others. Better than a book, better than travel, better than any other source is the God who is perfectly wise and as James 1:5 reminds us, offers wisdom to those who seek it from Him.

So let's ask Him for it.

• What is something foolish you have done recently?
• Where do you look for wisdom mostly?
• Ask God for wisdom and look for it in the Scriptures.

Pray:

• Praise the Father that He has perfect wisdom and offers to share it generously. 
• Give thanks for Jesus who is the wisdom of God and whose teachings give us true wisdom. 
• Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others look to God for true wisdom.
