He is Risen
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell
The third day he rose again from the dead
Apostles Creed
I’ll never forget. I was at university. Just hanging out, having lunch with a few other students. We were talking about Scientology and how crazy some of their beliefs were. You know, Xenu and all that. But my mate (a non-Christian) said something that really stuck with me. He said, “is that any different to the resurrection of Jesus?”
It caused me to pause. Was he right? He certainly thought he was. It rattled me a little. Caused me to question by belief. But that questioning really bore fruit.
I believe that Jesus Christ, on the third day, rose from the dead.
And I don’t believe that this is wishful thinking on my part, or any Christian’s. I don’t think it’s the same as believing in Xenu or Atlantis or Romulus & Remus. Instead, it’s more like believing in the miracles of Jesus. Unusual, but attested to by multiple, trustworthy sources.
Additionally, this isn't a claim out of the blue. If you trace the patterns of the Old Testament, the resurrection on the third day of God’s Messiah isn’t totally unexpected.
Is it out of the ordinary? Yes. It’s meant to be. If resurrections were commonplace, we would hardly be excited about Jesus. It’s meant to be unique. It’s meant to be extraordinary. It’s meant to be clear that this could only be God.
And what it means. Well, that’s the greatest part. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead means that death, the great enemy of life, can be defeated. If we trust in His resurrection, then God will raise us too.
For Today:
Pray: Praise the Father that He has power over life and death. Give thanks for Jesus, that He makes a way for our resurrection. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others believe in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.
