The Quick

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell
The third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead

Apostles Creed

Jesus has ascended to the right hand of the Father. But there He waits for the hour which only the Father knows. When the gospel has gone out to all tribes and nations. When all of those who God has called to find eternal life in His Kingdom have responded.

Then, Christ will return to judge the “quick and the dead.” The quick - those who still have the “quickening” of life (are alive) and those who are dead. Listen to Jesus Himself,

“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned (John 5:28–29).

What is good? It is to trust in Jesus and be covered by His goodness. What is evil? It is to reject Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Like a tidal wave that forms slowly but then hits with incredible force is the coming judgement of Christ. Now is the time of warning. Do good by finding shelter in the bunker that is Jesus death. He has already taken the judgement on Himself for all who trust in Him.

Who do you need to warn?
Perhaps it is a Christian who is wavering? Or perhaps an unbeliever?

For Today:
  • Do you trust that you will be saved by Jesus at the judgement to come?
  • Who do you need to warn?
  • Pray for some people today who need to be reminded of the judgement to come.

Pray: Praise the Father that He is good, just and patience. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who judges fairly and who has made a way for the salvation of humanity. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to be at work in you and others to find shelter in Jesus Christ.
