Creed

I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth
And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell
The third day he rose again from the dead
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead
I believe in the Holy Ghost
I believe a holy catholic church; the communion of saints
    The forgiveness of sins
    The resurrection of the body
    And the life everlasting. Amen.

Apostles Creed

Today is the last in our Apostles Creed series. It’s been great interacting and being encouraged by one of the earliest Christian documents. The Creed reminds us of what it means to be a Christian and critically for our time, a reminder that faith is not simply a feeling but trust in truths we can know.

And so I want to finish the series with this thought. Creeds like the Apostles Creed and even more so the Nicene and later Creeds. Were formed because of a threat. The danger of drifting from the truth. This is no ancient or modern phenomenon. While ever sin exists, drift will exist.

This is why we need to keep coming back to the Apostles Creed and of course, to the Scriptures. What stops drift? A strong anchor.

And that is what we have in this document. Something that in the midst of a desire to innovate, pressure to change and a culture of compromise can bring us back to true Christianity, true faith and the true gospel.

For Today:
  • What have you found interesting about the Apostles Creed?
  • Do you know someone who is drifting from the faith?
  • Have a crack at memorising the Apostles Creed!

Pray: Praise the Father that He is the one true God, Father, Son & Spirit. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who reveals God to us and whose work saves us. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others remain anchored in the truths of the Scriptures.
