S.O.S.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Do you ever feel like you are running in survival mode? I do. When you just need to get through the next day, week… maybe year!? Maybe survival mode doesn’t describe you. Maybe you are more like in opportunity stage. There just feel like so many things you could be doing, it’s hard to fit everything in.
Business, tiredness, options and endless opportunities make for a danger cocktail called self-centredness. Or maybe another way of saying it, self-prioritisation. That mindset of I’ve just got to look after me and mine. I reckon a lot of us feel this way on a Sunday (sometimes without even realising it).
But at the same time, it’s a mindset we want to resist. Moved by the love of God for us, we see the need to change from survival mode to love mode. From seeing the endless opportunities for self-fulfilment or pleasure to all the opportunities for love.
When you come on a Sunday, what is your mindset?
Can I encourage you to come with a mindset of love? Love of God, coming to give Him the praise, reverence and thought He deserves. Love of others, by singing for their encouragement, asking how they are, praying for them and serving them.
Does that mean you never come to receive? Well, no. See how this works. We always receive when we come to God in love, because He loves us and has loved us through His Son. And when God’s people come with a mindset to love, we all receive in turn.
For Today:
Pray: Praise the Father that His mindset is always love. Give thanks for Jesus who came to earth in love of the Father and the people He came to save. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others come to church with a mindset of love.
