For Good, God

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 4:7-11

I want to finish our series on spiritual gifts with two thoughts. Stewardship & glory.

There is a difference between owning something that you bought and being given something for a purpose. If you buy a car with your own money, it’s yours. If you want to trash it, never clean it, do burnouts in it… that’s up to you. A company car, leased to you, well, that’s a different story isn’t it?

Whatever our gift. It’s something that has been received from God, given to us for His purposes. So, we should use whatever we have received for His purposes and that is to serve others.

But this leads into the second word, glory. When we do use the gifts as God intended. When we serve others with the strength that God provides. God is glorified.

What about if nobody sees? Well, I reckon this is one of the most remarkable things about God being Trinity. Even when no one sees you clean up after church or your faithful, private, ceaseless prayers, God knows and Father, Son & Spirit glory together in their work through you.

So use your gifts this week. Use them as gifts loaned to you for a purpose. To serve God’s people and give Him glory.

For Today:
  • Do you think of spiritual gifts as something to be stewarded?
  • Do you use your gifts to serve others?
  • How could you glorify God with your spiritual gifts this week?

Pray: Praise the Father that He is glorious and gives us what we need to glorify Him. Give thanks for Jesus Christ for His faithful service to the glory of the Father. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others use the gifts He has given for serving others and for His glory.
