True Purity
Beth
How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, Lord;
teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119:9-16
Have you ever read Psalm 119? It’s 176 verses long. The longest Psalm and an acrostic poem. These Easter holidays (+ a bit extra), we are going to read through them together, each day reflecting on what the Psalmist has to teach us.
It’s a terrifying world for a Father these days. In Australia, two-thirds of kids have had sexual intercourse by the age of 16. Presumably, judging by the language, other forms of sexual activity have probably begun even earlier. 73% of teenagers aged 14-17 have viewed pornography. To not be having sex is to be missing out. It’s to be weird, no fun or an ice-queen.
It’s enough to cry out, how can a young person keep their way pure!
The Psalmist tells us. By living according to the word of God. By seeking God with all their hearts. By knowing God’s ways - being able to recount them from their mouth. By meditating on God’s precepts (His words/laws) and considering them - seeing how much better they are than what the world has to offer.
This is why when we do family breakfast (we find this a bit more consistent than eating dinner together) - every Monday we memorise the Bible. We’ve been doing it for years now and we would all have memorised something like 100 verses of the Bible.
Whether you have kids or don’t. The truth is it isn’t only the young who struggle to keep their ways pure. Memorisation isn't as hard as you think it might be and obviously it isn’t something that’s only beneficial for young people. It’s never too late.
After we finished Psalm 119 - keep an eye out for Memorisation Mondays here at the Blog.
For Today:
Pray: Praise the Father that He is pure and is without sin. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who rejected the pleasures of this world and forgives our impurities. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others keep your ways pure and know His words.

For Today:
- How are you going at keeping your way pure?
- Do you practise Bible memorisation?
- How could you put in place a rhythm of Bible memorisation for you/your family?
