True Obedience
Qoph
I call with all my heart; answer me, Lord,
and I will obey your decrees.
I call out to you; save me
and I will keep your statutes.
I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I have put my hope in your word.
My eyes stay open through the watches of the night,
that I may meditate on your promises.
Hear my voice in accordance with your love;
preserve my life, Lord, according to your laws.
Those who devise wicked schemes are near,
but they are far from your law.
Yet you are near, Lord,
and all your commands are true.
Long ago I learned from your statutes
that you established them to last forever.
Psalm 119:145-152
Most Christians know they should come to God in prayer. Certainly most that have grown up in Church. I don’t know about you, but I’m not great with things I know I should do - but don’t really want to.
I know I should floss my teeth - I don’t.
I know I should put my keys in the same place every time - I don’t.
I know I shouldn’t check Facebook - I do.
You with me?
For many Christians, they know they should come to God in prayer - daily even. But they don’t.
How does this relate to the Psalm? I was struck by the Psalmist’s description of a deep desire to engage with God. The writer calls out to God with all their heart, rises with the dawn to call for help.
That’s just not me. But I know it should be.
So I’m going to cry out to God today to help me. For His Holy Spirit to grow me to call out to Him more. That’s a start.
For Today:
Pray: Praise the Father who hears our prayers and answers them according to His will. Give thanks for Jesus who is the ultimate answer to our cries for help. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others come to him in heartfelt prayer.

- Wake up early one morning to pray.
