Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

I got news this week from an old friend that they had just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

The ravages of sin of this world are many. At this moment, few seem so bad as a mum and a young family suffering from the effects of cancer. The fear, the sickness, the kids struggling to process, the strain on the family dynamics, the pain.

Thank God for medical advancements that gives some hope of more years to love, disciple and support a husband and children.

But thank you Lord for a far more certain hope and a greater one too. For a new creation without cancer, pain or fear. For a new body without the ravages of sin and death.

Help us to make this our hope and fix our eyes on Jesus who guarantees that hope with His death & resurrection and help us to keep in step with the Spirit who points us to this hope.

For Today:
  • Have you been reminded of the ravages of sin lately?
  • Is your hope in Jesus and the new creation?
  • Is there someone you should pray for?

Pray: Praise the Father who promises us a blessed hope. Give thanks for Jesus who has rescued us from sin and death. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others put your hope in the life to come.
