5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:5

I’ve spoken a bunch about the why of Christian living. We should conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ because the gospel is itself so worthy of our sacrificial lives.

But what does it look like? What does it look like on a Sunday to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus? What does it look like to do nothing from selfish ambition or vain conceit? What does it look like to put the interests of others before yourself?

Well, this can be complicated. But here are some suggestions:

  1. Praying for strength to serve on the way to Church
  2. Welcoming a new person when they come in the door
  3. Sitting next to someone who is by themselves.
  4. Singing loudly to encourage others.
  5. Smiling and acknowledging the person speaking up front when they make eye contact.
  6. Looking for opportunities to serve others at the Gathering.
  7. Offering to pray for someone who shares about their struggles.
  8. Asking questions and listening well in conversations.
  9. Helping a family with kids get dinner sorted after Church.
  10.  Washing up other people’s plates/bowls etc.
  11.  Sitting with someone at dinner who you don’t normally talk to.
  12.  Joining a serving team and committing to being a faithful team member.

I’m sure I’ve missed a bunch of things. What would you add to the list?
As we all practise this humility we will create a loving community that cares for all and welcomes everyone.

For Today:
  • What would you add to this list?
  • What’s one thing you have done in the past?
  • What’s one area you could grow in?

Pray: Praise the Father that He has gathered us by His grace in Jesus Christ. Give thanks for Jesus and for His humble service of sinners. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others put others interests before your own in the Sunday Gathering.
