Memorisation Monday
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Philippians 2:5-8
We are memorising Philippians 2:5-11. It’s an incredibly important passage of Scripture. Thought to be one of the earliest pieces of oral history, this articulation of the gospel is rich in theological gold.
Verse 8 brings us to the lowest of lows… or is it the highest of highs? As Christ allows Himself to be humbled to the point of death on a cross. It is the greatest irony in history.
The King of Heaven is crucified with the most common of criminals. It’s a cosmic travesty that cries out of justice but also surprisingly - forgiveness. Instead of resulting in the swift punishment of an angry Father, Jesus’ death on the cross results in the forgiveness of sins for those who trust in Him.
Be reminded of how far Christ went for you Christian.
Questions/Thoughts/Tips:
Pray: Praise the Father that He offered mercy and forgiveness in place of justice. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who endured the humiliation of the cross. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others find forgiveness in Christ.
