Wisdom Wednesday

Then he (Jesus) said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

Luke 12:15

Isn’t greed ugly? We don’t like it when we see it. Whether it’s the bonus the CEO gets paid, or the profit a company makes, or just that person at the party who takes more food than they should. Greed is ugly.

But so rarely are we brave enough to look at the greed in our own hearts. And it’s there for most of us. We want a better house, a better holiday, or just more money. Or maybe it’s a kind of greed that wants the best things for our family at the expense of others.

And what a sad thing a greedy Christian is. When we consider the generosity of God in Jesus Christ. What we have in Him. We have abundant life now and forever. So really it comes down to trusting that. If I see what I have in Christ - I don’t need to be greedy.

Do you see? Are you wise enough to see? How could you see this wisdom better and keep reminding yourself of it? That’s something to wrestle with today.

For Today:
  • What kind of greed do you struggle with? What do you get greedy about?
  • How could you remind yourself of what you have in Christ?
  • Pray that God would keep you wise to the danger of greed.

Pray:
Praise the Father that He is generous and gives us all we need in Christ. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who resisted all kinds of greed. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others avoid the temptation of greed and trust in Christ.
