Wisdom Wednesday
My son, if sinful men entice you,
do not give in to them.
Proverbs 1:10
I was invited to a wine tasting night at a friend's house. 20 unbelieving blokes, expensive bottles of wine, not much food and one lone Christian. For me, a recipe for sin. It’s not aggressive - they never chanted ‘drink’ or forced wine down my throat. But I wanted to do what they were doing.
Have you experienced something like this? Maybe it wasn’t alcohol. Maybe it was something else?
Wisdom is to be aware and on our guard. The answer is not to become monks, safe islands in the muddy, powerful river (though this may be helpful for a period of time). Rather, we need to be wise, prayerful, certain (of our identity in Christ), hopeful (that God can strengthen us and keep us) and repentant (when we do sin).
Ultimately we need to be wise and see that the pleasures of this world and the validation of man is nothing compared to the riches at the right hand of God and His love and pleasure.
For Today:
Pray:
Praise the Father that pleasures forevermore are at His right hand. Give thanks for Jesus who shows us the dignity, joy and love of living God’s ways. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others wisely reject the way of sin.
do not give in to them.

For Today:
- Do you find it hard to be around certain non-Christian friends/family?
- Where have you seen progress/growth in resisting sin/temptation?
- Do you see honouring Christ as greater than the pleasures of this world?
Pray:
Praise the Father that pleasures forevermore are at His right hand. Give thanks for Jesus who shows us the dignity, joy and love of living God’s ways. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others wisely reject the way of sin.
