You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
2 Corinthians 9:11
Our world loves an exchange rate. Different currencies, gold, silver, bitcoin etc. etc. Paul gives us a fascinating insight into the nature of exchange that occurs in God’s people. In Acts 20:35 - Paul tells some Ephesian Christians that it is more blessed to give than receive. How could that be so?
Well, 2 Corinthians 9:11 gives us a clue. God enriches us spiritually so that we can give materially and receive a return spiritually. When we give generously, we become blessed as we trust in Jesus more by His work in us to grow our generosity. Sorry, a bit of a mind bend. But I think we get it.
But here’s the thanksgiving part. When we are enabled by God to give generously, this will actually lead to thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in the people who receive the material generosity. But then in turn, thanksgiving in you who God spiritually enriched to trust Him enough to give generously.
For Today:
Pray:
Praise the Father for His generous grace to us that He has lavished in Christ. Give thanks for Jesus that He gives us everything we truly need to be generous. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to enrich you and others spiritually so that you can be generous materially.
