S.O.S.

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
so that sinners will turn back to you.

Psalm 51:10-13

Do you resonate with these words from David? Particularly with verse 12 right? You know, I pray this prayer almost every week for a year. I didn’t feel a deep joy in my salvation. I believed in God, I trusted in Jesus but there just wasn’t much there.

Now, I can testify to you God’s kindness that something did change. I genuinely feel a deep joy in my salvation. It didn’t happen instantly. But it did happen.

It leads me to reflect though. Notice where David goes next?

Restore to me the joy of salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me… then/so then I will teach transgressors your ways.

Is this why you ask God for joy and strength? So that you would go and tell more people about Jesus?

I reckon this is a great reminder about our Sundays.
Each Sunday, we hear the Scriptures preached, we look to be encouraged in word and song, we call on our Father in prayer. We do all these things because they honour God but also because they hopefully grow our joy of salvation and sustain us spiritually.

But Sunday should be like coming to the petrol station. We fuel up so that we can go out again.

For Today:
  • Do you need to ask God to restore the joy of your salvation?
  • What do you find most encouraging about the Sunday Gathering?
  • Who do you need to talk with about Jesus?

Pray:
Praise the Father who generously gives us the joy and strength of salvation. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who for the joy set before Him endured the cross. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others have joy and strength in Him that we might tell others about Jesus.
