S.O.S.

But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Hebrews 12:22-24

Sunday’s can be very mundane. I wake up & usually watch the football (soccer) highlights from overnight. I make breakfast for the kids. Cup of tea. Second cup of tea. Start getting my day going. What’s your Sunday like?

But then… we come to Church. To the gathering of God’s people. And here is where things get strange. Walking into a basketball court doesn’t seem overly different to the rest of my day. Kids are making noise. Work to be done. Conversations to be had.

But Hebrews tells us that actually the most profound activity is about to take place. Ordinary people are assembling to hear from the God of the universe. On a Sunday, heaven meets earth.

When we gather, we stand before our Heavenly Father to hear His Words. We gather around the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Judge and King of all. We gather with God’s people and thousands of angels. That’s what’s really going on.
Not mundane at all.

For Today:
  • Do you find Sunday’s a bit ‘mundane’?
  • How could you be reminded of the spiritual reality of the Sunday Gathering more clearly?
  • Ask God to help you see it more clearly today

Pray:
Praise the Father that He has gathered us in Jesus Christ. Give thanks for Jesus who is our good Lord under whom we are gathered. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others see the wonder of gathering as His people.
