Ephesians Day 12

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 1:11-14

There aren’t many guarantees in life. Death, taxes and your sports team disappointing you (sorry, might be venting here). Outside of those things, when we hear of things like a 100% guarantee - we are understandably suspicious. We have just been let down too many times.

But God says there is something you can bank on in life. It’s the reception of our inheritance in the final redemption of God’s people and creation. Why? Because God has given us a deposit - the Holy Spirit.

So two things. How does having the Holy Spirit mean we can bank on God’s promised inheritance? Well - firstly, because God has said we can. This God who speaks in one who cannot lie and is powerful to ensure such things.

But secondly, because we receive this promise according to His plan. God isn’t a child who just throws around promises thoughtlessly. He has been holding this inheritance for us since before the foundation of the world.

So we can bank on this if we trust in Jesus. If we have the Spirit. We can be 100% certain that we will inherit what is coming to the sons and daughters of God. Isn’t that good news today?

For Today:
  • Have you ever been let down by someone/things guarantee?
  • Do you trust that God doesn’t lie?
  • What are you looking forward to in the inheritance of God’s people?

Pray:
Praise the Father that He does not lie. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who won for us the right to be children of God. Give thanks for His Holy Spirit to help you and others trust in and look forward to receiving God’s promised inheritance.
