Ephesians Day 20

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church

Ephesians 1:22

I wonder if you have ever had anyone appointed to be your boss that you just weren’t sure about. Maybe they didn’t really have runs on the board. Or maybe you just didn’t know them at all.

Well, as far as appointments go, this has got to be the most justified. God has appointed Christ as head over everything. Jesus has gone through something of a role change. From sacrificial servant whose role was to come and die for the sins of many to now, crown & Kingship over all creation.

It couldn’t be a more deserved elevation. He is not only worthy of the role but the only candidate that could be said to be so. Only Jesus has the character, capacity, convictions and competency to rule over all things.

And this King comes in with a clear agenda. He is for the Church. That’s the memo. His policies, procedures and the party line are all pursuing a clear outcome. It’s to draw His people to Himself and to purify them from sin for the sake of His glory.

That means good news if you are His Church. Have you ever been in an organisation where the boss is favouring you and your group? The Big Boss is for the Church. It’s a good reminder for those who say I’m a Christian but I don’t believe in the Church.

It’s a good reminder too for those with other agendas. He may allow a time of pursuing your own policies and outcomes. But this is to be against Him and Jesus is a CEO who will eventually clean house.

Are you going to flow with Him? Or against Him?

For Today:
  • Are you glad that Jesus is King?
  • Are you for the Church?
  • What does it look like to pursue Jesus’ agenda rather than your own today?

Pray:
Praise the Father for His wisdom in appointing Jesus as King. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who is a good, wise and powerful ruler. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others pursue Jesus’ agenda rather than your own.
