S.O.S.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Romans 12:6-8

One of the mind-boggling graces of God is that we have all been made differently. Humans aren’t Arnott’s Scotch-Finger biscuits coming off a production line. We have been given different gifts and abilities by the God who made us.

But why? Why have we received the grace of God in the form of ‘gifts’, abilities and capacities? To glorify God might be the simple answer. But glorify Him how? Notice the commonality between all of these giftings mentioned by Paul? All of them are for the benefit of others. Teaching, encouragement, serving, giving, leading, mercy and even prophecy. These aren’t for the sake of the gifted but for the building up of others.

Sundays are a day where we get to glorify God by building one another up using the gifts God has given. We get to show off the individuality God has given us in the commonality of being His people. Let’s do that today as we gather.

For Today:
  • What gifts or abilities do you think God has given you?
  • How are you using these gifts for the Kingdom? In your workplace or local community?
  • How are you/could you use these gifts to build up God’s Church?

Pray:
Praise the Father for making you who you are. Give thanks for Jesus Christ who gave everything He had for the sake of God’s people. Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others use your God-given gifts for the sake of the Kingdom & His Church.
