So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:6-7
The house I grew up in had an enormous Lilli Pilli tree. Massive roots, so strong it’s branches wouldn’t move when we climbed it. Each year it would drop hundreds and thousands of little fruit onto our lawn.
Paul’s picture of the Christian life is like that of the Lilli Pilli. We aren’t to be reeds swaying in the wind, in danger of being battered, trampled or snapped and unable to produce fruit. Instead, as our faith grows (through the ongoing sustenance of God’s Word & Prayer), we become rooted, stronger and unshakeable.
And we produce good fruit. Now, you know your fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. But these aren’t the only fruits of the Spirit. We could easily add gratitude or thankfulness.
Let’s be great trees that drop the fruit of thankfulness all around us..
For Today:
Pray:
Praise the Father that He is unshakably strong.
Give thanks for Jesus Christ, the soil in which we are planted.
Ask God for His Holy Spirit to strengthen you and others and to help you produce the good fruit of gratitude.
