S.O.S.
In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. He says,
“I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters;
in the assembly I will sing your praises.”
Hebrews 2:10-12
One of the common stories of Wollongong is that of the migrant sufferer. Italians, Greeks, Serbs, Macedonians and many Asian families moved to Wollongong in search of a better life for their family.
To get there, they suffered, first they travelled for months by boat. Enduring seasickness and privation. They then worked hard, often doing unpleasant jobs for the sake of their loved ones. But one of the hallmarks of these migrants is that they would also celebrate their achievements with cultural feasts and dinners, in their desire to share the benefits of their suffering with the family that they had fought for.
Sundays are our family celebration. In this case, we remember and enjoy the rewards of our older brother, Christ, and His suffering on our behalf. It’s a messy family, full of different personalities and sinful stories. But Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters for He has made us holy.
We are His loved ones, the very reason He suffered. And He is gathering us together, ultimately (in the new creation), but also weekly to celebrate with us the fruits of His labour. Don’t miss out on the family celebration.
For Today:
Pray:
Praise the Father for His goodness, that He calls us His sons and daughters.
Give thanks for Christ who suffered for the sake of His family.
Ask God to help you and others to celebrate as we gather physically, in thought, deed and song.

For Today:
- Do you see the Sunday Gathering as a family celebration?
- How could you celebrate Jesus more?
- What can we do at Village to make our Sundays more meaningful?
Pray:
Praise the Father for His goodness, that He calls us His sons and daughters.
Give thanks for Christ who suffered for the sake of His family.
Ask God to help you and others to celebrate as we gather physically, in thought, deed and song.
