Wisdom Wednesday
“To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
“‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Matthew 11:16-19
Have you ever had someone respond to you the opposite of what you expected? Maybe you tried to do something nice for them and they were insulted.
That’s kind of what Jesus is talking about. What should Israel’s response to John the Baptist or to Jesus have been? Rejoicing right! Their long-awaited Messiah has finally appeared. And yet how do they respond? Doubt and disdain.
It’s like someone playing a sad song and the audience laughing. That’s foolish. It’s unwise in the sense that it doesn’t make sense!
So I guess the question is. Are we responding like we should? Are you rejoicing at the good news of the Messiah? Are you proclaiming Him to others? Or are you wishing He was someone else offering something else?
For Today:
Pray:
Praise the Father for sending Jesus the Messiah.
Give thanks for Christ gives us a song of salvation.
Ask God to help you and others respond rightly to Jesus.

- What is a foolish response to Jesus?
- How could you respond wisely to Him this week?
Pray:
