S.O.S.

Greet one another with a holy kiss.

2 Corinthians 13:12

No. It’s ok. I’m not going to suggest we start doing this. I don’t think Paul is either (well, not exactly). In the Greek/Roman world of the early Church, similar to perhaps modern day France or Italy (before COVID), some form of kissing on the cheek was standard practice. It’s a physical gesture that indicates welcoming and closeness. It’s a culture of welcoming.

Have you ever walked into a space, maybe it was a party where you didn’t know anyone and just felt awkward. It’s not fun. On the other hand, maybe you have been somewhere where you got welcomed at the door, it was warm and inviting.

This is something we want to continue to pursue at Village. Welcoming one another with warmth. Both the insider and the outsider. A welcome like we are coming home after a week long absence.

What better response to what we have received in Christ? Because through Him we have been warmly welcomed into the family of God.

For Today:
  • When have you been welcomed warmly?
  • How do you go with this? Do you find welcoming hard or easy? Why?
  • How could you help grow a culture of welcoming at Village?

Pray:
Praise the Father that He has welcomed us into His family.
Give thanks for Jesus Christ who died to welcome us into His family.
Ask God for His Holy Spirit to strengthen you to warmly welcome others on a Sunday.
