Advent - Day 22

See, my servant will act wisely;
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
Just as there were many who were appalled at him—
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being
and his form marred beyond human likeness—
so he will sprinkle many nations,
and kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.

Isaiah 52:13-15
Full Readings: Isaiah 52:13–15, John 19:1–6

Jesus' death on the cross is the greatest paradox in history:
  • The greatest humiliation is the greatest exaltation
  • The greatest defeat is the greatest victory
  • The greatest injustice is the greatest justice
  • The greatest event of hate is also the greatest of love
  • The saddest moment is actually the moment of greatest joy

The cross is literally mind-blowing. It is the central act in a plan of wisdom from beyond this world. No writer, ancient or modern could have conceived of it. No strategist, general or King could have executed it.

As we look toward Christmas. We see God’s plan for redemption and we marvel at His wisdom. Like an audience, in joy, we marvel at the greatest plot twist in history even as we lament its necessity.

Do you see that today?

For Today:
  • Take a moment to reflect on the gospel and marvel at it.
  • What do you find so remarkable about Jesus and God’s plan?
  • Send someone a text to encourage them with your reflection today.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is Sovereign and achieves all things according to His good plan.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who acts wisely in trusting the Father.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others see more clearly His plan and purpose in Christ.
