Psalm 145:1-3

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
Psalm 145:1-3

Between Christmas and New Year, we will take a break from normal programming and spend the week in Psalm 145.

The end of the year means school assemblies and awards at primary school. Kids are brought up on stage, given a medal and a few seconds of applause for their achievements during the year. In the English Premier League, when a famous player dies, sometimes they will clap for a whole minute.

Time, the Psalmist reminds us, points to worth. How worthy is the Lord? Worthy enough to receive unending praise.

Today, many will shout in praise for a variety of things, all with their own levels of worthiness. But the Lord…. Your God…. Your Saviour… Your gracious King… Surely He is worth a few minutes of your time to praise Him.

Pray:
  • Praise God for His mighty acts of creation, for the world and everything in it.
  • Praise God for His mighty acts of salvation, for the redemption of sinners through Jesus Christ.
  • Praise God for His grace in sharing the inheritance of Christ with His people.
