Wisdom Wednesday

As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.
Proverbs 26:11

Are you a New Year’s Resolution person? Have you already failed? Hopefully you haven’t! No doubt you made some great commitments. Exercise more, spend more time with people you love, (hopefully) read the Bible/pray more.

If you are anything like me, New Years Resolutions often take the form of starting something or doing more of something. But what if the best things you could do this New Year is to stop doing something.

As the Proverb suggests, the fool is the one who keeps doing foolish things. It’s a lovely vivid image isn’t it. Returning to your own vomit. And yet, how often we make the same mistakes!

Think about the year that has been. What’s three things or lessons you need to learn? What’s three things you need to stop doing? What a difference that might make!

For Today:
  • Reflect on the previous year and decisions/moments that you would prefer not to repeat.
  • What does it look like to stop doing these things?
  • Commit to stopping by asking someone to keep you accountable!

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is unchanging because of His perfections.
  • Give thanks for Christ the Son who set you free from slavery to sin.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you flee sin this year.
