Wisdom Wednesday

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2

Do you remember arguing with a parent or a teacher about something, only to find out later that you were wrong. It’s not a nice feeling, particularly if others were watching. It’s something I've experienced too many times. But what if the disgrace isn’t the worst part?

Maybe it’s that I rejected an opportunity to grow. Instead of listening to a wiser, more experienced person, I trusted that I knew best.

If you want to grow in wisdom in 2024, start by growing in humility (I really hope I’m hearing this). A few thoughts as to how we do that.

Firstly, work on your listening, genuine listening rather than waiting for your turn to speak. Secondly, always assume you know less than you do. Finally, even when you think you know better, hear people out, you might be surprised.

Humility doesn’t mean lacking in confidence. But I think for many of us, we can be like small dogs with big barks - hoping that no one looks over the fence. Instead, let’s be humble, thoughtful and become wiser as we listen and learn.

For Today:

  • Where have you seen pride stop you from growing?
  • Who is one person you need to listen to more?
  • What’s one thing you would like to understand better?

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is all-knowing.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who shows us true humility.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others be humble and grow.
