Wisdom Wednesday

So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2 Peter 1:12-16

What piece of wisdom would you want to pass on to the next generation? Ponder that question for a moment.

The Apostle Peter at the end of his life speaks wonderful and wise words to God’s people. He wants to remind them of ‘these things’. He is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ, His majesty and his work as Saviour, giving us the righteousness of God through the gift of faith.

It’s important to see. This is the wisdom He wants to pass on. Sometimes, we look for the latest ‘key to life’, a silver bullet that might revolutionise our life. Particularly when we are feeling flat, a lack of success or joy in life. But what do we need most of all?

We need to be reminded of the glory, goodness and grace of God in Jesus Christ. Do you see this? How privileged you are to have received the gift of faith? That you, unworthy in sin, are considered righteous in the eyes of God through the atoning death and intercession of the risen Christ so that we will be welcomed into the eternal kingdom?

Brothers and sisters, we are the most privileged people on earth. This is wisdom that needs to be passed on. Who are you passing this wisdom onto? Who should you be? It’s a legacy that will last into eternity.

For Today:
  • What wisdom would you give the next generation?
  • Do you need to be reminded of ‘these things’ today? Why?
  • Who is one person you could pass this wisdom onto this week?

Pray:
  • Praise the Father for the privilege of being His people.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ and the joy we can have in Him.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others receive and pass on this wisdom to others.
