S.O.S.

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.

Romans 12:4-6

Have you ever tried to write with your feet/toes? What about something crazier, have you ever tried to eat through your nose? It can kind of work, but it’s not ideal. Our body works best when we use every part according to its design. So it is with Jesus’ body - the Church.

There are a few things we need to note here.
  1. Each of us (all) have been given a gift/ability.
  2. Our gifts are given by grace (they are God-given).
  3. These gifts are to be used for the sake of the Church, seeing that we belong to one another.
  4. There is no difference in value between gifts - the gift of preaching/teaching is not to be held in higher esteem than hospitality.
  5. We honour God when we use our gifts according to His purpose for them.

We will all use the gifts God has given us for something. Some for making money, some for making friends, some for making the world a better place. Some for making it worse!

But let’s not forget that first and foremost - God gave us gifts for the sake of His Church. For serving one another and spreading His glory across the world.

For Today:
  • What do you think you are gifted in?
  • Are you using your God/grace given gifts in some way for the sake of His Church?
  • Is there anything you need to change in this area?

Pray:
  • Praise God the Father who, by His grace, made us who we are.
  • Give thanks for Christ who served us and gives us gifts to serve each other.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others serve the body of Christ with the grace-gifts that you have been given.
