S.O.S.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

The world feels very dark right now. The Doomsday clock has been moved to 100 seconds to midnight. It’s the war in Ukraine and Palestine. It’s floods and fire. It’s COVID. It’s climate change. It’s the shattering of the narrative that we were making progress toward a perfect world.

But we have a light that never dims. As the first chapter of John’s gospel reminds us, He is the light that was shining before the creation of the world. He is like the sun. He is faithfully shining the light of His goodness down on us.

He is always shining His light but Sunday’s are like going to the beach together. As we gather, as we sing, as we hear His Words to us - we bask in Him. This is a sun that doesn’t burn but warms us and gives us life.

Let’s rejoice in this and let’s reflect that light to others.
Let’s also pray that like moths to a light, as the world grows darker, more people will be drawn to the light of Christ & His people.
And let’s look forward to the day when we will bask in His light for eternity.

For Today:
  • Do you feel the world is getting darker?
  • Do you see Christ as the light of the world? How might you bask in Him today?
  • How can you show the light of Christ today?

Pray:
  • Praise the Father of lights whose glorious goodness brings light to the universe.
  • Give thanks for the Son who came to reveal to the world the light of God.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to make us light in the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong.
