Wisdom Wednesday

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

One of the things I love about Village Church is our kids. Oh sure, they are noisy and messy. But they are God’s kids, given to us to raise in the way of the Lord. He has entrusted them to us all, to teach them about who He is and what He has done in Christ.

One of the greatest ambitions we can have at Village is raising kids that will follow Jesus their entire lives. Here are a couple of ways we can do that:

  1. Asking kids questions - when we have dinner, ask the kids what they learned at Kid’s Church and encourage them. Parents, on your drive/walk home, ask your kids what they learned.
  2. Join the Kid’s Church team - what better way to grow little disciples of Jesus than on the front lines. Be encouraged yourself as you hear their prayers, thoughts and questions. It isn’t always easy, but it is a wonderful way to serve.
  3. Sing & Pray - one of the reasons we don’t send kids out to Kid’s Church straight away is because we want to model to them what it looks like to be God’s people, particularly in singing & prayer. So sing loud to the Lord and engage deeply in prayer, for His sake and for the sake of little eyes watching.

It takes a Village to raise a child. Sorry… I had to.

For Today:
  • Are there other ways we can encourage Village Kids?
  • What is one thing you could do each Sunday to encourage a Village kid?
  • Pray for Village Kids once per week

Pray:

  • Praise the Father that He loves us as His children.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who is our older brother, who teaches us and models for us.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others love God’s little disciples.
