Momentum

3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 4:3-4

Temptation is a part of life. Sometimes it feels like it’s a part of every minute of life. Sometimes it gets tiring and it feels harder not to give in.

One thing I’ve noticed though. Is that resisting temptation is often a momentum thing. Sometimes you almost form habits of either fighting or giving in to temptation.

It’s kind of like exercise. If you go for a 5km run and give up at 3km. You’ll find it hard not to do that next time. And even, maybe at 2km. But push through and you are more likely to push through the next time.

I reckon that’s the same with resisting temptation. Sometimes you just need to start with little wins and you gain momentum.

What temptation to sin are you facing at the moment? What would a small win look like in one of those areas? Commit to achieving a win. Ask someone to help you. Then think about what would the next win look like.

Have a crack!

For Today:
  • What temptations are you facing at the moment?
  • What would a win look like in these areas?
  • Pray for God’s help and ask someone to keep you accountable.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He doesn’t fall into temptation.
  • Give thanks for Christ who resisted temptation for our sake.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others flee temptation.
