Wisdom Wednesday
Let the one who is wise heed these things
and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.
Psalm 107:43
What do you ponder? I’m a natural ponderer. It’s what makes me a bad driver and a particularly bad bike rider. I go into dreamland. What about you? For some of us. The problem is that we never do this. Screens have given us the ability to never think deeply but to remain distracted.
But when do you, what do you ponder? Sometimes I get fixated on strange things - looking at trees and imagining how much firewood I could get from them. Other times, I turn to coveting - imagine buying in this suburb 10 years ago.
What if instead of foolish or sinful things, I could turn my mind to ponder the loving deeds of the Lord? Sometimes I do and it’s always encouraging.
I reflect on how God has plucked me from out of the pit. I imagine where I would be without the Holy Spirit. I ponder what heaven might be like. Paul says in Philippians,
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Wouldn’t it be great if we did that more? I hope I’m wise and heed my own advice.

- Write down three ‘good things’ you would like to reflect on more.
- Spend five minutes today just thinking.
Pray:
- Praise the Father for His deep love.
- Give thanks for Christ and His kindness to sinners.
- Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others ponder His love towards you.
