Wisdom Wednesday

For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.

Proverbs 5:21

Privacy is, according to some modern thinking, the sacred right of all humanity. But of course, technology has become the asteroid of impending doom for our privacy hopes. Netflix knows what you watch. Google knows what you search for. Facebook knows what photos you have clicked on. Your whole life is being stored in the great data mine of the cloud, a deep and rich vein for AI to exploit and reveal.

But privacy has never been real. For as the wise writer of Proverbs reminds us, God has always seen and known. In fact, He can mine the very depths of ourselves, our thoughts. To this we should add 2 Corinthians 5:10,  “For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

For those who trust in Christ, our sins are ultimately forgiven, but we will still stand before God and as Romans 14 says, give an account of our lives. As we used to say, God will play the videotape of your life and it will include everything.

This should cause us to pause and reflect. God sees our internet history. He sees our choice of TV Series. He sees our Facebook messages. He knows our true intentions even if we are able to veil them from others. Let this knowledge turn you to Christ for forgiveness and a healthy fear of the Lord that leads to true repentance.

For Today:

  • What do you need forgiveness for in recent days?
  • What comes to mind when you hear that God sees all?
  • How could you turn from sin to righteousness in one area of life today?

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is all powerful and knowing, He sees all and knows all.
  • Give thanks for the forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ that gives us certain hope in the judgement to come.
  • Ask God to help you and others have a wise fear of Him and to pursue holiness.
