S.O.S.

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

2 Timothy 2:8-10

There are times in life when being a part of God’s Church feels hard. It’s not just turning up on a Sunday, it’s the thought that you need to be loving, patient, welcoming, attentive etc. when you turn up on Sunday.

Are you feeling drained? Lacking energy? Do you feel like other people aren’t pulling their weight? I think Paul’s words are critical for you.

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead. In the resurrection we are reminded of why we do what we do. It’s the resurrection that reminds us that salvation can be found in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Not just for ourselves. But for others.

It’s this grand thought that drives Paul to continue to suffer for the sake of God’s people (His elect). He can endure chains because of hope in God’s unchained word. So see this today, as you come, drained or energised, flat or excited, weak or strong, your endurance for the sake of the gospel is an act of hope.

One day, we will enjoy rest from suffering and eternal glory. But we suffer now that others might obtain that eternal glory. This is the fuel that keeps us going.

For Today:
  • How are you feeling about Church?
  • How are you suffering for the sake of others?
  • Reflect on the resurrection and the hope we have in Jesus.

Pray:

  • Praise God the Father that He raised Jesus Christ from the dead and offers us a glorious hope.
  • Give thanks for Christ who suffered for the sake of His people even to the point of death on a cross.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others persevere in hope for the sake of others.
