Genesis - Day 4

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:20-21

Have you ever seen the birds of paradise of Papua New Guinea? Have you ever been whale watching along the coast of Australia? What about a visit to the Great Barrier Reef?

I’m a bit of a documentary nut. I’ll happily have a David Attenborough show on in the background while doing other things. It’s a fascinating world and it only appears to get more so as we uncover its mysteries.

While David Attenborough insists on commenting on how well nature has designed these creatures, I’m reminded of what seems to me a far likelier architect.

It could have been a world of black, white and some grey. Instead, we have beauty and every colour in the spectrum. This points me to a God who is beautiful, creative and desires to show Himself through the natural world. Our world is marvellous, because He is.

For Today:

  • What part of our world/universe amazes you?
  • How does the natural world point to God’s nature?
  • Go for a walk somewhere nice or watch a nature documentary and reflect on the wonder of God.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is glorious in the beauty and order of creation.
  • Give thanks that He has given us eyes to behold Him and our world.
  • Ask God to help you and others cry out in wonder and praise at His marvellous works.
