Genesis - Day 5

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:26-27

I want you to imagine a primary school parade. Imagine kids dressed up as the different days of creation. Stars and galaxy costumes. Land and water. Plants and trees. Sun and moon. The birds of the air, creatures of the sea and the animals of the land. Finally, we come to the grand finale. But this time there is no costume because it’s us. It’s humanity!

That’s exactly what’s happening here in Genesis. God is parading His creation before our eyes, so that we would see His glory. But critical to the pageant is those who cap it off.  We are at the pinnacle of creation.

Because there is a movement that seeks to diminish the place of humanity. Either putting us as just another animal or worse, as something of a virus. But it was only humanity who God made in His likeness and image. There is a primacy to the human creature and to you!

We naturally stare out at the universe in awe. But so should we stare within (if that were possible). You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are the most complex being in the universe. You are a mystery to modern science because God made you in His image.

But again. This points us to God. If humanity is complex. God is infinitely more. Praise Him for humanity. Praise Him for you. Praise Him for Him.

For Today:
  • Read an article about the unique nature of humans.
  • Reflect on how God has made you, you.
  • Praise Him for humanity, for you and for Him.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father for creating us in His image.
  • Give thanks for Christ who shows us the true beauty of the image of God.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others give Him the praise He deserves.
