Genesis - Day 12
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:1-5
Satan has many names in the Bible. The Serpent, Beellzebul, The Devil, The Prince of the Power of the Air. But perhaps the title most connected to Genesis 3, is ‘father of lies’ (John 8:44).
Here in the garden. Satan tempts by the way of a lie. He knows that God will do what He has said. He knows that to eat the fruit of the tree will certainly mean death for Adam, Eve and humanity. But he lies.
Satan continues to lie today. The Apostle Peter reminds us that he prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. By this he (Peter) means that Satan continues his rampage of human destruction through deception.
Satan wants to deceive you. Deceive you into thinking that God isn’t who He says He is. That God won’t do what He said He will do.
Today Satan says, did God really raise Jesus from the dead.
Today Satan says, is God really good?
Today Satan says, is your sin really so bad?
Today Satan says, does God really care how you live?
Today Satan says, do you really need to put your trust in Jesus only?
Don’t be deceived today. Instead, be alert and of sober mind, resist him, standing firm in the faith.
For Today:
Pray:
