Genesis - Day 13
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Genesis 3:2-6
Why do humans sin? Last week in soccer I versed a player who in the past has been a bit of a terror. He has a violent past and it’s not fun to get on his bad side. But this time, he seemed calmer, nicer, something had changed. At the pub after the game we were discussing what might have caused this guy to settle down.
It turns out he had a heart-attack last year during a game! Was this the reason for the change? I dropped a comment, maybe he saw what was waiting after death. A few boys laughed, a few groaned, none really took it to heart.
It’s interesting the nature of sin. It’s to take a risk that God will not keep His word. Eve, believing Satan’s lie, decides that the risk is worth it. The fruit of the tree looks good and maybe, just maybe, God won’t do what He says.
Christians love to reflect on God’s faithfulness to His good promises of mercy. But God will be just as faithful to His promises of justice. Sinners will certainly die. They will perish. They will be separated from God’s goodness forever as a punishment for sin.
Do you see this? Christians, what risks are we taking. By not engaging with our community, friends and family about Jesus? We are taking a risk. Hoping that maybe someone else will tell them, or maybe God will just do a miracle. But is that worth risking their eternity?
For Today:
Pray:

For Today:
- Remember that God does what He says.
- Pray for three people who don’t know Jesus.
- Invite someone to visit Village Church.
Pray:
- Praise the Father that He is faithful and always keeps His word.
- Give thanks for Jesus who saves sinners from their foolish decisions.
- Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others take a risk to talk to sinners about Jesus.
