Genesis - Day 14

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Genesis 3:8-10

Children hide when they're guilty. Adults do it too. We don’t go to our room or dive under a blanket. We just don’t answer the phone or we start getting our groceries delivered.

Why do we hide? Adam hid because he was afraid. Now, there could be a few things going on here. But I rekon a big part of the fear was the fear of guilt.

Why do we hide when we are guilty? Guilt is to know you have done the wrong thing.
We hide because we don’t want to be ‘found’ guilty. We don’t want people to see our failure, weakness and shame. We also don’t want to suffer the consequences. So we hide.

The problem is, you can’t hide from God. We cannot hide our guilt from Him and we can’t hide from His consequences. But notice what God does? In His grace God comes looking for us. God doesn’t throw up His hands.

Like the Father in the prodigal son. He is the God who comes to foolish children. And we see that clearly in Jesus Christ who came to forgive our guilt.

For Today:
  • Do you hide from God or from Church/Christians because of your sin?
  • What are you feeling guilty about?
  • Repent and trust in Jesus for forgiveness.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father for His grace to us in sending Jesus to find us and forgive us.
  • Give thanks for Jesus who cleanses us of our guilt by taking our consequence for sin.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others come to Jesus with your guilt and be forgiven.
