Glorify Pt. 1
24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me,
or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices.
But you have burdened me with your sins
and wearied me with your offenses.
25
“I, even I, am he who blots out
your transgressions, for my own sake,
and remembers your sins no more.
Isaiah 43:24-25
On Sunday we saw God’s purpose for all things. It wasn’t firstly love, or mercy or even justice and most startling of all, it’s not us. It’s His glory. It’s for the sake of His name being known and recognised as glorious.
Now, when people hear this, one common objection is that this seems wrong. God shouldn’t be on about His own glory. If a human were to act that way, well, that’s un-Australian for sure but it also just seems self-centred.
And that would be true in a human. It is wrong for humans to make everything about themselves. What right do humans have to do that? They aren’t at the centre of everything. And in fact, everything that humans achieve that might be worthy of glory - aren’t they simply using what God has given them.
Think about the athlete. I’m sure Usain Bolt trained hard. I’m sure he was disciplined. But without the body God gave him, or the mind, or other genetic dispositions - Usain Bolt would have been well, no one special.
But doesn’t that point us in the right direction? God did make everything. And it’s pretty glorious isn’t it. He made the sun, the seas, the sand. He made the eyeball. He made the sun and the galaxy. He made us. And He saved us. He sent His Son to die in our place.
If humans are worthy of any glory for their achievements then how much more is God worthy of glory and honour. In fact, it’s right to make His glory the centre because He is the centre of everything.
For Today:
Pray:
or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices.
But you have burdened me with your sins
and wearied me with your offenses.

For Today:
- What would you say is the purpose of your life?
- What is one reason you think God is glorious?
- What is one thing you could do to glorify His name today.
Pray:
- Praise the Father that He is glorious in His work in creation.
- Give thanks for the Son who reveals the glory of God in His death & resurrection.
- Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others give God the glory He deserves.
