S.O.S.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16

Sometimes at night, when I go to close the blinds on my kids bedroom window, I notice a great light across the city. It’s the lights at the Bulli Greyhound track. A great light amidst many smaller ones. Sadly, this beacon is one of entertainment and gambling, rather than goodness, truth and love.

But across the city of Wollongong, there are other lights. You can’t see them with your physical eyes. But when we look through a spiritual lens, they are there. Little lights dotting households in every suburb. But then bigger, brighter lights as those little lights come together to put on an even greater light show.

One of these great lights is in Bulli, at the PCYC. It starts shining around 2:30pm on a Sunday. Its light is the light of God’s glory. As God’s people gather in love of their God and each other. As God’s people trust Him by listening to His Word. As God’s people marvel at the life, truth and love of Jesus Christ. As we pray, sing, talk, listen, mourn, repent and rejoice in the name of Jesus. It’s like a great flare of hope in the darkness.

Let’s be light in the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong as we gather today.

For Today:
  • Come and gather!
  • Pray that we would be a light in our community.
  • Reflect on what it looks like for you to contribute to the light today.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is the Father of lights.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who is the ultimate light in the darkness and who gives us light to shine in our world.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and your Church to be a beacon of light and hope in Bulli & the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong (or wherever you are).
