S.O.S.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers

Galatians 6:10

You get out of it, what you put into it. You know that phrase? I’m not sure it’s always true. But one place it often is true. Is Church.

Some people come to Church to ‘get fed’. Some to tick a box. Some by force of habit. But my experience is that this approach will always make you feel like an outsider. You will get something out of Church but not much.

But there is another way to approach the Sunday Gathering. Seeing it as an opportunity to do good, to new people (all people) and especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Coming to serve rather than just be served.

This approach spreads its rewards across the whole family. It’s not a faithful few serving the masses. It’s all of us working together to do good. When it happens, it’s so encouraging. Here are a few thoughts on what this looks like:

  1. Arriving early (3:50pm) - so you can welcome visitors.
  2. Sitting closer to the front (leaving back seats for visitors).
  3. Serving in a Community Team/Kids Team.
  4. Staying for dinner.
  5. Asking people questions like - how is life right now, or a question from the sermon.
  6. Singing loudly to encourage others.
Just being present on a Sunday makes a big difference. Most of us are tired. Most of us have some desire to be on the lounge at home. But when we all overcome those feelings and come to do good, we all are encouraged and strengthened.

See you this arvo.

For Today:

  • What’s one good thing for others you have done before at Church??
  • Have you been encouraged by others doing good to you?
  • What’s one good thing you could do this afternoon?

Pray:
  • Praise the Father for His grace in making us a family with Himself and each other.
  • Give thanks for Jesus who unites us by His blood and Spirit and did the greatest good for us.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others do good to all and serve one another.
