Bad Doubts

Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
11 The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”

Exodus 3:10-13

God has some great lines. Well, when you think about it, all great lines come from God in some sense. But here it’s much more direct. As Moses doubts his own abilities to speak, God says, hang on a second, who made mouths?

I think it’s a great little line to memorise actually. For those moments when you doubt your ability to follow through with God’s commands. When you doubt your ability to serve Him.

Now, there is something a bit particular here. Not all of us have been explicitly commanded by God to be His mouthpiece in the same way that Moses is. But at the same time, has not God commanded us to speak of His good news?

Should we not say amen to this task with the Psalmist who says,

My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all. (Psalm 71:15)

We often feel inadequate to the task of speaking to others about Jesus. But remember this. Who gave humans their mouth?

For Today:
  • Do you doubt your ability to speak about God/Jesus to others?
  • Have you ever had a try? How did it go?
  • Have a read of this article - https://gotherefor.com/offer.php?intid=29795

Pray:
  • Praise the Father who gave humans their mouths (and everything else).
  • Give thanks for Jesus who proclaimed faithfully the goodness of God.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others overcome doubt and tell others about Him.
