Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Psalm 34:8-10

There is a big difference between how I eat my cereal in the morning and how I eat my favourite meal. One is all about just getting something into me before the day begins. It’s about routine and not much else.

But when I eat Satay from my longtime faithful Vietnamese restaurant. I make it last. I savour it. In fact, when we buy takeaway I stretch it out over three meals. When something is so good, you really want to take the time to enjoy it.

That’s why we don’t want Church to go for five minutes or even thirty minutes. As if the Lord was a fast-food option.

Instead, every Sunday and any day that God’s people gather together to hear from His words, pray and encourage one another, we get the immense privilege of tasting and seeing that God is good. We take our time to do all of these things and that’s a good because when you are presented with the most delicious meal, you don’t scoff it down thoughtlessly. You savor it and enjoy it.

For Today:
  • On a Sunday do you taste and see that the Lord is good?
  • How could you savour God more on a Sunday?
  • Reflect on this idea as you gather with your Church today.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is good and glorious.
  • Give thanks for Jesus who shows us how delightful God is.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others rejoice and savour Him today.
