Wisdom Wednesday
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
Colossians 4:2-5
Einstein said time is an illusion. It sure doesn’t feel like it. Time feels like our most limited resource in the modern world. We work longer hours, we try to ‘find the time’ for exercise, for maintaining relationships, for hobbies and fun, TV shows and travel.
The list is long. And Paul wants to add to it. He wants us to be devoted to prayer and to make the most of every opportunity in our engagements with unbelievers. Paul… don’t you know how little time we have and how much we need to do already? Don’t you see?
And this is what it comes down to. Paul sees things differently. He sees time differently. We think we need to make the most of our time for the sake of our own enjoyment and satisfaction. But Paul wants us to make the most of our time for the sake of seeing others hear and respond to the gospel.
Time is a limited resource. But it’s not ours. It’s a God-given gift to be used for His sake. So… devote yourself to prayer and be willinging to take the time to have conversations with people about Jesus. In eternity, there will be no time to waste.
