For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.
Romans 12:4-6
Remember the WWJD (what would Jesus do) movement? It seemed like every kid had a WWJC bracelet. It was an interesting idea and not without its merits. But there’s one problem with trying to live every moment like “what would Jesus do.” It’s that we aren’t Jesus.
I don’t mean, perfect like Jesus. I mean, just not Jesus. We aren’t meant to be Jesus. We are meant to be us. We are meant to be like Jesus, but still us. One of the beautiful things God has done in creation is make every person unique. As Paul says in Romans, the Church is one body, but we have different gifts according to God’s grace.
Imagine a local church where everyone was exactly the same. I mean, that just screams cult for one but it also would lead to incredible dysfunction. We need a church with different gifts. We need some people who are great with kids. We need some people who love to cook. We need a few people who can preach and teach.
This is actually one of the things that I’m thankful for. That God has made His Church in such a way that we can be united in what we believe and where we are going and yet different in the way we contribute to the goal God has given us. I’m thankful for you and the grace God has given you to serve His people and the people of the Northern Suburbs.
For Today:
Pray:

For Today:
- What gifts are you thankful God has given others?
- Could you say how you were gifted?
- How could you use what God has given you for the sake of growing His Church?
Pray:
- Praise the Father that He created us.
- Give thanks for Jesus Christ who leads the way in serving God’s people.
- Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others serve others with the gifts God has given.
