S.O.S.

For your ways are in full view of the Lord,
and he examines all your paths.
The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them;
the cords of their sins hold them fast.
For lack of discipline they will die,
led astray by their own great folly.

Proverbs 5:21-23

I’ll put it straight. There is no more important discipline for the Christian than the regular attendance at the Sunday Gathering. I don’t think I’m overstating things.

On a Sunday, we grow in our love and knowledge of God through the hearing of the Word of God, singing His praises, serving one another and more. Church is God’s gift to you to stand firm in Christ.

Sadly, so many have fallen away from Christ because they lost the discipline of going to Church. For lack of discipline they have died.

Like many things that are good for us, ‘Churching’ can be hard work. But, whatever pain it might be is worth the gain of growing in your faith, love, joy and hope as well as the prospect of growing others.

So, why not set a goal for the regular attendance of the Sunday Gathering this year. Before I was a Pastor - I worked off the principle of four Sundays off a year. Once you include sickness - that probably looks like 6-8 weeks off a year. How does that sound?

It’s not about legalism. It’s about honouring our Lord who died for us so that we might gather in His name and grow together to be His Holy people. This, takes discipline.

For Today:
  • How many Sundays did you miss last year?
  • Set a goal for this year's attendance.
  • Tell someone for accountability!

Pray:
  • Praise the Father for His gift of the Church.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who unites us spiritually and physically.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others grow in our discipline of Church.
