Wisdom Wednesday

Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

1 Thessalonians 5:15

Life is complicated. It wasn’t long ago that we had some relatives over at our house and one of the kids made a comment that they didn’t want to wear a pair of sunglasses because they were ‘girls’ sunglasses. Which elicited a response from my non-Christian relatives that there is no such thing as girls or boys sunglasses. No big deal. But then one of their kids took the next step - there’s no such thing as boys and girls!

What should Christians do in these situations? We want to love people, but we want to stand for truth. We want to honour God but we don’t want to be seen as haters or bigots.

To put it simply, we want to do the right thing by everyone. But what is the “right” thing? And how can we know?

Over the coming weeks I want to use our Wisdom Wednesday blog to consider some of the trickier questions of ethics and morality. Blog length will limit the amount of depth but hopefully we can squeeze enough in to make it helpful and perhaps point you to further material.

For Today:
  • Do you care about what is right/wrong/best?
  • Do you think we can have confidence in most situations that there is a “right” choice or decision?
  • When was a situation or a moment when you were faced with a tricky ethical decision? Let me know!

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He is good and works all things for good for those who love Him.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ who reveals the truth and shows us how to live.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to give you and others wisdom in how to do what is right.
