Memorisation Monday

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Every month I review Village's budget and give an update to Church. And often, the case is that we are behind where we would like to be. You know, there is a big part of me (and I’m sure a big part of you) that just wishes God would sort it out you know. That we would win the lottery somehow and that it was a non-issue.

But as Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 9, this would actually rob us and God of something.

Think of it like this. A kid who gets $1000 in pocket money each week and has everything provided for, for them to give $100 away is no great sacrifice. And a parent seeing this is not overly encouraged.

But a child who has very little money. Whose pocket money comes through collecting cans to recycle. Who then chooses to give away $5. That’s 50 cans. That’s hours of work. That’s true generosity and sacrifice. That is pleasing to God.

Tips:
  • Say the passage out loud 10 times in a row.
  • Say it once before you go to sleep.
  • Say it once more when you wake up.

Pray:
  • Praise the Father that He owns the cattle on a thousand hills.
  • Give thanks for Jesus Christ and His generous sacrifice to us.
  • Ask God for His Holy Spirit to help you and others to be generous with whatever God has given you.
